Student life in Swansea​ is an increasingly popular experience for young people. Swansea is the second largest city in Wales and home to two universities: the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Swansea University. There's plenty to do in the city, but it's most notable for sitting along the beautiful South Wales coastline. Aside from the beach, you're also next to the Gower Peninsula, the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so this is the place to be for nature lovers.
Renowned for academic excellence, Swansea University comprises eight colleges spread across two campuses, situated on the coastline of Swansea Bay. The Singleton Park campus is located to the west of the city centre and set in the grounds of Singleton Park. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David also has one of its three campuses in Swansea, on the south side of the city centre.

    Swansea University encompasses the area south of Singleton Park and has all the university amenities across two self-contained campuses. Most buildings, along with the university pubs and union, are on the Singleton Park campus, whereas the engineering buildings sit on the other side of the city on Bay Campus.

Swansea student life offers a great mix of activities. There's plenty to do around the city - whether that's a bar crawl along the popular Wind Street, a trip to the museums and theatres around the waterfront or a deep dive through the delights of the grand Swansea Indoor Market. You're also well-catered for by the Swansea University Students' Union, nestled in the centre of the campus.
The most popular student areas are Brunswick, Sandfields, Sketty and Uplands, although student accommodation can be found throughout the city centre as well.
October is the best time to start looking for student accommodation in Swansea. Properties will be available until February, but we would recommend starting a search for a property during the autumn. The most popular student areas in Swansea include Brynmill, Uplands and City Centre.

Tenancy periods in Swansea usually last for 12 months. Most contracts will start on the 1st July and end on the 30th June the following year. Occasionally, letting agents may offer tenancy periods that last for 10 or 11 months, starting in August or September. You can always enquire with the letting agent to find out how long your contract length will be.
Deposits are usually either 4 or 5 week's rent. The maximum legal amount a landlord can charge your for a deposit is 5 week's rent. You’ll get your deposit back when you move out of the property.
